July 4th - Jolley Style

For the past several years we have been able to celebrate Independence Day with our friends, The Jolleys. They always throw a good BBQ & we swim, play games, have races & just enjoy hanging out before we head to the fireworks in Idaho Falls. This year's party was a ton of fun, even though I had to sit out from a few events that didn't work well for pregnant people! The kids had a great time keeping cool in the pool; there is always a rousing game of volleyball topped off by some good old fashioned relay & potato sack races. Participation is mandatory, even for adults (except for those with extenuating circumstances!) - the fun is optional, but rarely lacking!

The picture doesn't fit well, but our festive 4th of July hair turned out pretty good.
While we wait for fireworks to start there are always sparklers & a dance party!

The following picture needs a little briefing. As you can see in the pictures above, Jacob participated in the potato sack race for adults. During the race his competitive edge kicked in with gusto as he was just barely in 2nd place heading for the finish line. The next day he woke up to stiffness & pains saying, "man, I really hurt." Here's why:
A pretty good leap had him about 3.5 feet in the air which was followed by a pretty hard landing! As you can see, it didn't get him a 1st place ribbon (if there had been ribbons to get), but he does get an A+ for effort (especially at his age!)
