I've decided to forgo any official "updating" titles since I'm so far behind that "updating" would be never ending!
Mid-June we were off to Boise for the Idaho Taxidermy Competition. The girls & I planned some things to do for the time there since Jacob spends most of his time @ the competition & classes. We took a lot of pictures & I tried to compile them into just a few collages so as not to create too long a post!
First stop was the MK Nature Center - sponsored by the Fish & Game & our favorite price... FREE! It was a cool spot & we learned some interesting things there. One of the highlights was a sign identifying poison ivy - me having never actually seen it anywhere, or at least not knowing! The kids loved the owls & the squished penny machine for sure. We officially decided that squished pennies were what we would collect for souvenirs when we ventured to new places.
Next stop was some fun @ Zoo Boise. We tried to go several years ago during a previous Taxidermy Competition, but without GPS or any knowledge of Boise, were unable to get there due to a bike race that had closed & detoured a bunch of roads. Google Maps & Navigation was my best friend this trip! We made it this time & it was worth it; plenty of cool animals & fun picture spots. One of the coolest parts was the butterfly exhibit loaded with tons of cool butterflies that would just land on you (which wasn't Emma's favorite!)
We had even more fun with some stops @ parks to play & cool off in the fountain. Although, with the slight breeze that day, the kiddos didn't require any cooling off & playing in the fountain didn't last very long! They did, however, insist on swimming in the hotel pool in the chilly evening weather - go figure! Pizza in the hotel is always one of our favorite things. Sit in bed, eat pizza & watch TV all at the same time - what could be better! (A slip of the fingers in making this collage must have been why Emma ended up w/ wedding bands on her head, but I couldn't get it to edit out... oops!)
And finally, the actual reason we went to Boise... The Taxidermy Competition. The weeks leading up to this event are always jam-packed with plenty of stress for Jacob & sometimes all-nighters trying to finish, adjust, fix whatever he is taking. (It always turns out good, but he is extra critical) Jacob took 3 things to enter & did great on all of them, albeit not as great as he was hoping for. He said there was a lot of really good work there & some tough judges.
