The 1st Saturday in December is our traditional day to put up the Christmas tree, but due to a planned trip we had to go a little earlier this year.
The trip previously mentioned was to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We stayed @ The Armstrong Mansion in SLC (really cool place), made our 1st visit to City Creek (in the cold), oohed & aahed but felt completely out of place @ Tiffany & Co, took some pics at the temple to commemorate our wedding day, caught a movie for $1 each & enjoyed dinner at Rodizio. Altogether a fast, but fun way to celebrate!
The making of gingerbread houses for some seasonal fun!
Both Ava & Emma participated in Christmas programs that were attended & enjoyed! Ava sang Christmas songs with her class at a school program & also participated with the Elementary School choir in the annual Firth Community Christmas Concert. Emma joined her Joy School friends in a Nativity Play & program. Emma was privileged & excited to play the part of Angel (a part she doesn't always play at home!)
Santa came to the bank (not the real Santa - we're aware he uses "helpers" to play all the Santas we see during the holiday season.) This year the Santa wishes remained unchanged - the girls asking for the same thing from each Santa they saw! (Like my high tech picture of pictures?!! The end of the year has also brought us some minor technology issues - the scanner being one of them!)
Our tradition on Christmas Eve is to open 1 present - not always PJ's. The girls loved having matching nightgowns with their babies.
Christmas day was wonderful & full of excitement, & as is pretty typical, the present opening went by fairly quickly! As a kid, I always had a picture with all of my Christmas treasures & we're keeping that up in our family too.
This year to help keep us in the right Spirit of Christmas we watched & shared many videos about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, even making that our 12 Days of Christmas countdown (although we admit to missing a couple days.) It turned out to be a great way to help us remember the reason for our Christmas celebrations. We may have to add it to our traditions in the future. The following one was our favorite & most touching as it provided our family the chance to feel the Spirit & learn that our children really are learning what we strive so hard to teach them. Whew!
Newmans out for 2013!!
