Olympic Spirit

The Newman family got into the Winter Olympics this year by both watching & participating in our own family Olympics. Surprisingly, the girls liked watching most of the Olympic events & got into the spirit with cheering & amazement @ the skill & speed of some of those events. Thanks to Family Fun, we got some ideas for our own "Newman Family Olympics," with a few little tweaks to suit our competition. Events included:
~ Tippy Tower: who could make the tallest tower using saved boxes
~ Hard to Chews: blower of the biggest bubble gum bubble (complete w/ 3 yr. old "bubbles!")
~ Thin Ice: a team effort to sink the opposing teams quarters through the tissue
~ Javelin Straws: using straws to shoot paper javelins into buckets (Mom's all-time lowest scoring event)
~ Pom-Pom Curling: blowing pom-poms onto a target to obtain points
~ Whee Ball: like "skee ball" with golf balls & an egg carton

We had a blast with our events & managed to extend them throughout the 2 weeks of the actual Olympics. We even had a medal ceremony, although the kids didn't want to oblige the biting of their medals... we just couldn't convince them that everyone was doing it!

Trying to catch a bubble on camera proved to be beyond my picture taking skills!

I also failed to measure ribbon for the medals so they could actually be worn - my guessing was far from accurate, hence the holding & the tape!

What a great idea. We will have to try this for the summer olympics. You guys are such a fun family! I can't believe how big the girls are getting!
