Summer 2013

Here's a quick recap of our summer happenings - mostly in words because I didn't get pictures of everything! We started the summer w/ a list of fun things we wanted to accomplish during the months off from school. We managed to get to most of them & added a few extras that didn't make the list too! Some of our ambitions included (but were not limited to):
* Drive-In Movie             *Summer Movies
* Fishing                          * Camping
* Art Project                    * Farmer's Market
* Summer Reading          * Cousins Visit
* Family Bike Ride          * Photo Safari... and more!!!

We started with these:

Some collages of our camping trip to the Soda Springs area.

Some parks w/ fun stuff to play on, an ice cave, the Soda Springs geyser & what we thought of the naturally carbonated water @ Hooper Springs! Plain, NO... w/ Tang, YES!

On our way to find a camping spot we stopped for some lunch & fishing @ Chesterfield Reservoir (that ended up being in the rain) & also checked out the old settlement of Chesterfield - which the kids shockingly LoVeD! :)

Riding a horse was a summer goal for the girls since they had never really ridden one, except for maybe a pony or two.

Since Christmastime is way too busy, we had a great idea to take "Christmas in July" treats to our friends & neighbors. We spent most of a day making a chex mix favorite from Great Grandma that our family refers to as "wonderful stuff," and Grandpa's caramel (which is really Great Grandma's caramel too!) We even wrote our own poem to go with them!

With all the lofty goals we had, our summer went faster than expected & was soon taken over by school days. From a Mom perspective, having lots of things planned to do & then not getting to all of them was definitely better than having nothing planned & wondering what we were going to do to keep us busy on those long summer days. The Newman Summer 2013 was StUpEnDoUs!!!

My dad spent a lot of time in Chesterfield during his growing-up years, so he loves it, too. I always thought it was boring, but I was probably just a surly kid. I've heard the new stuff is pretty awesome. Karisa's kids liked it a lot.
