On Mom-hood

I'll be the first to admit that being a mother is hard work! Most days I'm up for the challenge, but there are definitely some days when I'm not. While I was in college, I had the crazy notion that because my majors were early childhood & elementary education I was going to THE BEST & COOLEST MOM EVER! I was living under the false pretense that I had learned all of these wonderful things & could use them to keep my kids busy, make them smart, & create well-rounded, fabulous children! When my girls came they were already fabulous & smart; well-rounded is in progress & keeping them busy is a whole other story altogether! In short, that notion I had has been completely blown out of the water! I still can't explain why I can walk into a school & teach a class of 30 kids, Kindergartners even, & call it easy, but spending the day with my 1 or 2 children seems such a daunting task at times.

I've only been a mother for just over 5 years, which isn't much, but it's plenty to have learned some valuable things. And, while I'm absolutely certain that there is plenty more learning to go, I can say this... being a Mom is AWESOME, WONDERFUL, REWARDING, & any other fancy adjectives you can think of!

Emma took her first steps yesterday - a perfect Mother's Day gift! And every time I watch Ava read a book on her own, or listen to her sing songs, I pretty much just swell up like a pregnant lady with pride! ( I can say that, because I do that!) I'll concede that sometimes I'm just waiting for the day to end so that everyone can go to bed & try again the next day! But, EVERYDAY, good or bad, I have the opportunity to be a mother to these 2 BEAUTIFUL, SWEET, CHARISMATIC girls! (and any other fancy adjectives you can think of!)
