'Round abouts the end of July Ava participated in the local, long-running, and very popular, Firth Little Buckaroo Rodeo. Her 2 events were "the ribbon & the chicken," which translated means "The Ribbon Pull" and "The Chicken Scramble." For most of you who have never experienced the rodeo, the description of these particular events go as such:
The Ribbon Pull: Small groups of 4/5 kids go out into the arena where several goats are waiting with ribbons tied to their legs/tails. One by one, each child gets their turn to run out to the goat, untie a ribbon, and run it back to the clown for a "treat" (i.e. a few tootsie rolls!).
The Chicken Scramble: Only children 5 and younger can participate and must do so on their own with no help from adults. About 20 or so chickens are set free in the arena and this large group of youngsters chases the chickens around to try and catch one (with the rodeo rule being... if you catch a chicken you have to keep it!)
So, after that long explanation, here are the pictures of Ava's first Buckaroo Rodeo! In her group for the ribbon pull she was the only one that "ran" out to the goat and "ran" back, getting her cheers from the crowd! (The other kids in the group just moseyed!) And, if you hadn't already heard... we came home with a chicken!!! (although slightly by default since she didn't actually catch it on her own!)

Evidently, another rodeo rule... petrified crying gets you a chicken!

a little help from the clown...

...and Voila! a chicken!

Ava & Speckles the Chicken (who now lives in the backyard!)

Ava also started preschool this week, and is already loving it, although we knew she would since that is all she has talked about since May! Luckily we have a child who is mostly apprehension-free, so things like the first day in preschool go off without a hitch! Here's a couple of pictures we took of her new digs and Dora backpack before she was off to school:

She's growing up, isn't she?!
I can't believe that she's in preschool! She's so cute, and that rodeo sure looks like fun. We'll have to find one of those to go to in a few years :)
